The first GWO Offshore Wind Power Training Center in Northern Taiwan
The investment has increased by 71 times in the past five years! The offshore wind power industry is ramping up, and Chunghwa University is training people with a guaranteed salary of $60,000 onwards.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), foreign investment in the electricity and gas supply industry reached US$5.2 billion in the past five years, a 71.4-fold increase from the US$100 million in the previous five-year period (2014-2018), thanks to large-scale investments in green energy and offshore wind power. Recognizing the trend of the industry, Chunghwa University has recently signed an offshore wind power talent training and employment cooperation agreement with Haishuo Energy and Taiwan Wind Training Corporation to cultivate wind power industry talents from the campus, and Haishuo Energy will guarantee a salary of $60,000 to $60,000 per month after the students have passed the examination, which is a very attractive benefit!
Mr. Pei Wen, Dean of the School of Management at CUHK, said that net-zero carbon emission is a global trend, and various countries have set up carbon tariffs, and Taiwan enterprises are export-oriented, and they need green power to increase the competitiveness of their products. In response to the government's policy, CUHK established the first offshore wind power GWO (Global Wind Energy Organization) wind training center "Taichung Wind Training" in August last year (2023) in North Taiwan. The university encourages students to work in offshore wind power. This year, the university will launch a micro-credit course on offshore wind power, which will help students obtain a GWO-certified basic training (BST) license during their study period, and then they will be able to work in offshore wind power related jobs after graduation, which will not only improve the employment rate of students, but also provide them with a high-paying job that is not inferior to that of the Hsinchu Campus, and will help to cultivate talents in offshore wind power in Taiwan.
Hsu Chieh-Huey, Director of Haiso Energy, said that Taiwan has excellent wind farms, and the offshore wind farms in Miaoli and Changhua are now in commercial operation, and the CIP Changhua wind farm will be completed by 2025, while the offshore wind power 3-1 phase 2027 project will also be awarded one after another. According to the assessment report on the demand for professional talents in the offshore wind power industry, Taiwan will create a labor demand of about 10,000 people by 2025 and 37,500 people by 2030. In addition to offering high salary protection to attract outstanding students from Chunghwa University to join the offshore wind power market, Hi-Tech Energy and Chunghwa University are also planning to cooperate with Chunghwa University to offer micro-credit courses on offshore wind power, so as to cultivate more outstanding talents in offshore wind power.
According to the statistics of Energy Department, Taiwan completed 270 offshore wind turbines in November last year, and the cumulative installed capacity has exceeded 2.1GW, and it is expected that the construction of 560 offshore wind turbines will be completed in 2025, with an installed capacity of 5.6GW. In addition, according to the planning of Energy Department, the selection of offshore wind power phase 3-2 applications will be accepted starting from March 11th and it is expected that by 2029, 3GW of new offshore wind farms will be added.
